Writing Fair

**The following letter was sent home today.**

We are gearing up for our 2013 writing fair at PCES.  Our theme this year is “Words from the Heart”.  Your child will be working on their fiction and nonfiction entries in class, however if your student wishes to enter a piece in the poetry division the writing will need to be completed at home.  All writings are due in class by Friday, December 6 – NO EXCEPTIONS!

Entries must follow the theme, but any form of poetry is acceptable (rhyming, acrostics, etc.).  Also, please remember that this is a student competition; all work should be authentically written by your child.  Entries can be typed or handwritten.

We will have a classroom winner in each of the three categories.  Those entries will go on to be judged in our grade level competition, and a first, second, and third place winner will be chosen in each category.  If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  Thanks!

Wonders

We are using a new reading series, Wonders, by McGraw-Hill. The new program offers access to digital components for parents and students to use at home. Your child will have access to student books, games, assignments, and other resources by going to the following web address:

Your child should have his/her username and password.  The first time you access the site, you may need to enter a redemption code.  The code was on the original letter with your child’s access information.  If you need the access code, your student’s username, or password, please let me know and I will be happy to get it for you.

This is a great tool for your student!

Student Presentations

For the past few days, students from my class and Mrs. Taffs class have been working in groups to research and create powerpoints on endangered animals.   The students did an OUTSTANDING job!

The Little White House

We travel to Warm Springs, GA to the Little White House. We really enjoyed seeing the home of President Franklin D. Rossevelt.

Wall of Fame

Our class has been extra busy creating some wonderful work.
In reading, we've been learning about allerations. Stud bets used their name to create an alleration and then illustrated it.
In Social Studies, we just finished our Native Amerians unit. Here students created Thunderbirds.
Finally in Science, we've been learning about food chains. Students were to create the links in a food chain.
